People Magazine is reporting that in Meghan Markle’s “Ellen” appearance last week, it was all awkward and unprofessional.

Author Katie Nicholl told the publication that when it came to being on the show, Markle sent out an email to help with scheduling, but when that was done, it was handed off to her new producer, without Markle actually being involved.

“There’s absolutely no doubt that, in her first extended TV interview as a royal, she took part far less than I thought she would have done,” Nicholl added. “It was far from a dignified interview. She showed up 10 minutes late in a very casual tracksuit and even ended up in conversation with Ellen DeGeneres.”

Markle has made a lot of positive strides since entering the royal family, and a royal insider said Markle needs to appear more pro-active when it comes to her personal life.

“Her lack of interest in conducting interviews on her own doesn’t help either,” a member of the British royal family told People. “There’s definitely a professional side to her that we should see more of. For her to have the courage to appear on a show like ‘Ellen’ could inspire the rest of the royal family to be a bit more open and honest about their lives too.”

Markle’s personal life with Harry has become more and more visible this year, due to her excitement about the start of a new life with the prince. In August, the couple took a weekend getaway at a private home in Botswana and drove like single people, not a couple newly-weds.

“Both the Sunday Times and Vanity Fair put forward the story that there’s a secret wedding in Botswana happening at the end of September,” said fellow royals commentator Mark Corrigan. “We haven’t been told anything. If it is true, it’s going to come out.”

In a recent episode of the “Downton Abbey” spinoff “Poldark,” Markle plays an American whose love interests get caught up in the local politics.

“Once they get there, she finds herself pulled between Ross (Aidan Turner), her crush, and the local aristocrats who try to manipulate her into marrying a self-made man.”
