Former Speaker Roy introduces bill aimed at providing parents more information on immunity

Chip Roy, the former speaker of the House, on Tuesday night said he will introduce a bipartisan bill that would require the Food and Drug Administration to provide information on the basis of which disease agents are natural immunity to certain diseases.

Roy, the author of the 2012 SHIELD Act, is chairman of the GOP’s effort to eliminate Obamacare.

He spoke to Sean Hannity Monday night about his intent to co-sponsor the bill with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) “In every county in America you’re likely to find some parent who says, ‘Look. My son or daughter was 9 years old, they caught measles, they got an ear infection from the measles, and then they got a case of bronchitis. I have no idea why.’ And that’s a parent whose story could have been easily prevented by sharing information on immunity and illness.”

“You go to the CDC website and they tell you, ‘It’s the measles. This is the only thing you’re gonna catch. Don’t worry about it. The two other diseases that I’m going to mention here are chicken pox and whooping cough,’” Roy said. “You can blame them for not doing more to keep the measles from infecting these otherwise healthy children. So today, I’m introducing the Shannon Woodchild Health Information Act with Sen. Shaheen, which is really built on the Sharyland Resources Act. It would, for the first time, require the FDA, the CDC, to, in every county in America, provide the parents of 9-year-olds with, you know, evidence that shows natural immunity has as much likelihood of reducing infection as does vaccines.”
