European officials admit ‘Aedes aegypti can be passed on through sex’ in wake of viral epidemic

This is actually an Austrian Defense Ministry press release:

The Defence Ministry reports that Austria will enter a new phase in its fight against the threat of the Aedes aegypti mosquito in autumn 2019.

The decision to enter the phase is based on information received from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). US CDC recommends that Austria strengthen controls on travel to the country, especially in regions, where further outbreaks are anticipated.

The Ministry will activate its Emergency Response Prevention System and implement recommended health measures. In accordance with the European Commission’s Alert System, Austria may enter a State of Emergency when preventive measures are not enough to prevent a public health emergency.

Special attention will be paid to Austria’s active measures against the Aedes aegypti mosquito, as it continues to spread in Europe. The global situation is becoming more and more challenging, and health authorities have warned that it will increase further.

As a consequence, vaccination of all Austria’s residents to fight the disease will be compulsory, regardless of age or their security status, in autumn 2019. Early rations of antibiotics will be provided to protect against micro-organisms and the spread of serious infections.
